Juvenile Killed by Train in Duluth After Being Found Lying on Tracks

A juvenile was killed Wednesday night after being struck by a southbound Norfolk Southern train while lying on the railroad tracks near Main Street and Dailey Drive, according to the Duluth Police Department.

At approximately 8:44 p.m. on May 14, 2025, Norfolk Southern contacted the Duluth Police Department’s Communications Center to report the incident. Officers and Gwinnett County Fire Department personnel responded and located the deceased juvenile at the scene.

Authorities confirmed the incident occurred at a non-crossing location between the Rogers Bridge overpass and Dailey Drive. According to preliminary reports, the train operators spotted the individual lying on the tracks and attempted to stop by activating emergency brakes and sounding the horn but were unable to avoid the collision.

The juvenile was pronounced dead at the scene. The Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office responded and positively identified the victim on May 15. The name is being withheld due to the victim’s age.

The investigation is ongoing.
