Teen Suspected of Fatally Shooting Stepfather in Covington

Newton County authorities are searching for a 16-year-old male who is suspected of fatally shooting his stepfather on Tuesday evening.

On May 13, at approximately 6:15 p.m., Newton County deputies responded to a report of a person shot in the area of Avery Drive in Covington. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the victim, 41-year-old David Gay of Covington, deceased inside his residence.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Gay was fatally shot by his stepson, 16-year-old Jayden Daniel, also of Covington. The suspect reportedly fled the scene in a 2016 Cadillac Escalade belonging to Gay. Investigators later located the vehicle at Denny Dobbs Park, but Daniel was not in the vicinity.

Arrest warrants have been issued for Jayden Daniel, who is considered armed and dangerous. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact 911 immediately. The public is advised not to approach the suspect.
