Road Rage Incident Leads to Arrest After Driver Fires at Another in Albany

On May 13, 2025, Albany Police officers responded to a shooting in the 800 block of West Oglethorpe Boulevard at approximately 7:25 A.M.

According to police, 45-year-old Chartavius James reported that he was driving on West Oglethorpe when another driver began driving aggressively behind him at a high speed. James stated he felt threatened and, fearing for his safety, pulled out his firearm. When the other driver pulled alongside him, James fired his weapon, believing the other individual was armed.

Further investigation revealed that the other driver was holding a cellphone and appeared to be attempting to take photos of James, who had allegedly pulled out in front of him earlier. No injuries were reported in the incident.

James admitted to shooting at the other driver and was subsequently arrested and transported to the Dougherty County Jail. He has been charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of Certain Crimes, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
