Poulan Man Injured After Firing at Police, GBI Investigating

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Poulan, GA, on Sunday, May 11, 2025. The investigation was requested by the Poulan Police Department.

According to preliminary information, at approximately 8:10 p.m., Worth County 911 received a call for assistance regarding a domestic incident in the 100 block of Hickory Street, SW. A Poulan Police Department officer responded to the scene and requested backup.

Upon the arrival of the Poulan PD officer, 33-year-old Jordan Wheatley, of Poulan, GA, allegedly fired shots towards the officer while the officer was inside their patrol car. The officer requested additional assistance, and multiple law enforcement agencies responded.

Wheatley then reportedly saw a Worth County Sheriff’s deputy outside the residence and fired shots at the deputy. The deputy returned fire, but Wheatley was not struck. Wheatley then entered the home and barricaded himself inside a bedroom.

The Worth County SWAT team subsequently entered the home and located Wheatley inside a bedroom with an apparent gunshot wound.

Wheatley was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting. Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be submitted to the Tift Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
