Second Suspect Arrested in Columbus Murder Case

The Columbus Police Department has made a second arrest in connection to the murder of 33-year-old Chastin Hunter, who was fatally shot on May 5, 2025, in the 3700 block of Cusseta Road.

Following the initial arrest of 17-year-old Anthony Pollard, Jr., the Violent Crimes Unit located the Kia Soul used in the murder on May 6, 2025, at a residence on Hawaii Way. A search warrant was executed at the location, and additional evidence was seized.

Detectives identified Eugene Mabry as a suspect involved in the events leading up to the shooting at Avalon Apartments. Witness statements and further investigative leads connected Mabry to the robbery and shooting that resulted in Hunter’s death.

Eugene Mabry has been arrested and charged with the following:

  • Murder
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Armed Robbery

Previously arrested, Anthony Pollard, Jr., faces the same charges, along with an additional charge of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.

Recap of Original Incident (May 5, 2025):

On May 5, 2025, at approximately 2:39 p.m., Columbus Police Officers responded to a shooting in the 3700 block of Cusseta Road. They found Chastin Hunter, 33, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional, where he died at 5:32 p.m. A second victim also arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound and is currently in stable condition. The Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation.
