Troup County Inmate Found Unresponsive, Critical Condition

On Friday, May 9, 2025, at approximately 12:30 p.m., detention officers at the Troup County Jail discovered an inmate hanging from a bed sheet and unresponsive in a housing unit.

Jail staff, including medical personnel, along with the Troup County Fire Department and AMR, responded immediately. Life-saving measures were initiated, and the inmate, identified as 56-year-old Raymond Wardlaw, was transported to Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center. He remains in critical care.

Wardlaw was incarcerated on charges including Obstruction of an Officer (Felony), Simple Battery (Misdemeanor), Criminal Trespass-Damage to Property (Misdemeanor), Burglary-Forced Entry (Felony), and Interference with Government Property (Felony).

In accordance with standard procedure, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) has been notified and is conducting an independent investigation into the incident. No further information has been released at this time.
