Road Rage Shooting in Toccoa Leads to Arrest of 70-Year-Old

A road rage incident that began on Highway 17 Alternate toward Toccoa on Friday evening escalated into a shooting, resulting in one injury and the arrest of a 70-year-old man.

At approximately 5:22 p.m. on May 9, 2025, the Toccoa Police Department (TPD) responded to a 911 call regarding two vehicles involved in a road rage incident. Simultaneously, Stephens County 911 & Emergency Management received multiple calls reporting two cars blocking traffic on Highway 17 near Farm Bureau, involving several white males and a gunshot.

An off-duty Stephens County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) deputy was driving by with his family when a firearm was discharged, and a bullet struck their personal vehicle. Fortunately, none of the three occupants were injured.

Deputies, along with Georgia State Patrol (GSP) Troopers and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) rangers, responded swiftly to the scene.

While en route, dispatch received a call from a male with a gunshot wound who was parked in a company vehicle at the Highway 17 Diner on Big A Road. TPD and Stephens County EMS units arrived and transported the individual to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the right shoulder. SCSO deputies also responded to this second location, which was processed for evidence by their Crime Suppression Unit (CSU).

At the initial scene near Farm Bureau, deputies found evidence of a firearm being discharged in the roadway. A BOLO (Be On the Lookout) alert was issued for a silver Infiniti occupied by two males, believed to be the suspects’ vehicle. Further investigation revealed that a physical altercation had occurred in the roadway, a firearm was discharged, and the bullet struck one individual before exiting and hitting the off-duty deputy’s vehicle.

As investigators processed the shooting scene, deputies, Troopers, and TPD officers followed leads from concerned citizens regarding the BOLO. During the search for the vehicle, a male called 911 stating he was the shooter and wished to surrender. The CSU responded to an address on Shady Lane, where, after further investigation, Donald Sedivy, 70 of Toccoa, was arrested without incident.

Sedivy’s vehicle, a white Infiniti matching the BOLO description, was found outside the residence and towed to the Stephens County Jail for further investigation.

Sedivy has been charged with four counts of Aggravated Assault, one count of Cruelty to Children in the 2nd Degree, one count of Discharging a Firearm Near Public Highway, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.

The individual who sustained the gunshot wound is expected to recover.

Sheriff Rusty Fulbright expressed his gratitude to all assisting agencies and concerned citizens, including TPD, GSP, DNR, and Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents. “I would like to express my gratitude for the collaboration and teamwork that occurred among state and local law enforcement agencies,” said Sheriff Fulbright. “Together, we form a cohesive team dedicated to working toward a stronger and safer Stephens County.”

The investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be forthcoming. Sheriff Fulbright also urged the public to exercise patience and grace while traveling, noting that road rage can lead to dangerous situations.
