Armed Robbery at Vidalia Captain D’s; K-9 Officer Recovers Firearm

On Saturday, May 10, 2025, at approximately 10:15 p.m., officers with the Vidalia Police Department responded swiftly to a report of an armed robbery in progress at the Captain D’s restaurant located at 701 E. First Street.
Officers arrived within moments of the dispatch and pursued the suspect, who fled on foot toward the rear of the Planet Fitness building. After a brief chase, Vidalia Police officers located the suspect near a drainage culvert on Third Street, between Bay Street and Winona Street.
With the assistance of the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office, the Vidalia Police Department safely apprehended the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Iran Darna Harris of Vidalia. A K-9 Unit from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources was requested and subsequently recovered a nearby firearm. Authorities discovered that the weapon had been illegally modified to operate as a fully automatic handgun.
Iran Darna Harris has been charged with the following offenses:
- Three counts of Aggravated Assault (Felony)
- Armed Robbery (Felony)
- Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (Felony)
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime (Felony)
- Unlawful Possession of Firearms (Felony)
- Obstruction of Officers (Misdemeanor)
