GBI Investigating Fatal Shooting in Telfair County; Shooter Claims Self-Defense

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating the death of 21-year-old Jykerrion Maurice Oliver of McRae-Helena, GA, at the request of the Telfair County Sheriff’s Office.

According to preliminary information, Telfair County deputies responded to a shooting on April 18, 2025, at approximately 5:10 p.m. Oliver was found deceased at the scene.

The individual who shot Oliver has claimed it was an act of self-defense. No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation remains active and ongoing.
