Man Arrested in Banks County for Columbus Woman’s Murder

A hit-and-run investigation on Monday, April 28, 2025, led to the discovery of a homicide and the subsequent arrest of a suspect in Banks County, Georgia.

At approximately 5:28 p.m., Columbus Police Officers responded to a hit-and-run incident at the Summit Pointe Apartments in the 3000 block of Williams Road. A white SUV had struck a parked vehicle and left the scene.

While investigating the hit-and-run, officers were informed that Abigail Cadoura, 22, a resident of a nearby unit known to drive a white SUV, was unresponsive to calls and had missed plans with family. Her white SUV was located traveling north on I-85.

Officers conducted a welfare check at Ms. Cadoura’s apartment and found her deceased with multiple stab wounds. The Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation.

The missing white SUV was located in Banks County, Georgia. Deputies attempted a traffic stop, which resulted in a pursuit and a crash. The driver, identified as 26-year-old Luke Mercardante, was taken into custody. He is being charged with Murder and Theft by Taking (Motor Vehicle) and remains in custody in Banks County.

Investigators confirmed that Abigail Cadoura and Luke Mercardante had been in an on-and-off relationship. The investigation is ongoing.
