The Butts County Sheriff’s Office has arrested one of its own jailers, Lexi Thompson, for allegedly providing contraband to a county inmate. Sheriff Gary Long announced the arrest with strong words, calling Thompson’s actions “STUPID” and a violation of her oath and training.

Thompson, a four-month employee of the Sheriff’s Office, has been charged with two felonies: providing contraband to inmates and violation of oath of office. She is currently being held in the same Butts County Jail where she was previously employed.

Sheriff Long stated, “In my 28-year Law Enforcement profession, there is not much that shocks me and I let very few things bother me. This morning, we arrested one of our own… She decided to violate the oath she took and provided contraband to a County Inmate… Her actions are what I like to call STUPID.”

The Sheriff emphasized his commitment to holding his employees accountable and asked the public not to judge the entire Sheriff’s Office by the actions of one person. He commended his staff for their swift response and stated his belief that an officer who violates their oath is “worse than most in my jail population.” Thompson is currently being held without bond.
