Macon-Bibb County Celebrates National Community Development Block Grant Week
Mayor Lester Miller

Mayor Lester Miller, the Macon-Bibb County Board of Commissioners, and the Economic and Community Development Department (ECDD) are joining communities nationwide in celebrating National Community Development Block Grant Week, from April 21st to 25th, 2025. This week recognizes the 50 years of impact of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.

The CDBG program, a federally funded initiative administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), plays a crucial role in building stronger and more resilient communities. It supports efforts to maintain quality of life and address critical needs within vulnerable populations through both immediate and long-term services. The program has been a vital resource for state and local governments in meeting community development needs.

“Celebrating National Community Development Week and the Community Development Block Grant is a great chance to highlight the impact we have in our local community,” said Charlotte Woody, ECDD Assistant Director. “The impact of the CDBG program can last for a lifetime as many lives are changed because of the programs funded that are provided in the community.”

The CDBG program is accessible to organizations meeting HUD requirements, supporting a wide range of public services provided by both large and small agencies and private organizations. These services include crisis intervention (domestic violence), homeless services, case management, minor home repairs, family counseling, affordable housing, and youth mentoring programs. From April 2024 to the present, CDBG Public Service funds have supported 1,584 individuals and their families, while Housing funds have served 176 individuals and their families.

Macon-Bibb County encourages residents to join in recognizing the local agencies that receive CDBG Funds:
