Stolen Vehicle Pursuit Ends in Suspect’s Death from Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound in North Georgia

On April 17, 2025, at approximately 03:45 a.m., Whitfield County Sheriff’s Deputies were alerted to a BOLO for a stolen vehicle from Gordon County, possibly traveling northbound on I-75. The BOLO also indicated the suspect had fired a weapon at officers in Gordon County.

Whitfield County Deputies located the vehicle on Chattanooga Road near exit 336 and activated their emergency lights and sirens. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop, and a pursuit ensued. During the chase, the suspect fired a weapon multiple times at the pursuing deputies from the vehicle. Deputies did not return fire and continued to follow the vehicle.

The pursuit lasted approximately three miles before the suspect lost control of the vehicle and crashed near mile marker 339.

Upon approaching the crashed vehicle, deputies discovered the offender with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The identity of the individual is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is currently assisting with the ongoing investigation.
