Person Found Dead After House Fire on Winterville Rd. in Athens

Firefighters responded to a reported structure fire on Winterville Rd. near Sartain Dr. last Tuesday, April 8th, at approximately 12:25 pm.

Crews from multiple fire department engines and ladder trucks arrived to find a fire concentrated at the rear of the residence. Firefighters initiated an aggressive attack on the blaze while other crews entered the front of the home to conduct a primary search. One victim was located inside.

After bringing the victim to a safe area, firefighters began CPR. National EMS took over care but unfortunately declared the patient deceased at the scene.

Fire crews remained on site for over three hours to fully extinguish the fire and address any remaining hot spots. The Athens-Clarke County Fire Marshal’s Office is currently conducting an active investigation into the incident to determine the fire’s origin and cause.
