Macon-Bibb Honors Longtime Librarian Suzy McCullough

Suzy McCullough, Branch Manager of the Riverside Public Library, was recognized and celebrated on Tuesday, April 1, for her remarkable 46 years of dedicated service to the libraries of Macon-Bibb County. The honor took place in front of her family, the County Commission, and the Middle Georgia Regional Libraries team.

In recognition of her significant contributions, Mayor Lester Miller officially declared March 28, 2025, as Suzy McCullough Day in Macon-Bibb County.

McCullough’s career began in July 1979 and includes serving as a Children’s Librarian for six years and as the Branch Manager at the Shurling Public Library for twenty-four years. Prior to her library career, McCullough also dedicated eleven years to education, teaching second grade at five different elementary schools within Macon-Bibb, including the former Henry A. Hunt Elementary School. Notably, she was also the second-grade teacher of current Macon-Bibb County Manager Dr. Keith Moffett.

Suzy McCullough embodies the core values of the Middle Georgia Regional Library system, demonstrating exceptional skill and dedication throughout her career. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Education from Mercer University (1968), a Master of Education with a concentration in Early Childhood Education from Georgia College (1978), and a Master of Librarianship degree from Emory University (1983). She also furthered her education with a course in Advanced Children’s Literature at the University of Georgia.
