Shooting at Apartment Complex in Statesboro Leaves Three Injured

A shooting at Southern Downs Apartments on Georgia Avenue left three individuals injured on March 6, 2025. At approximately 12:02 p.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 700 block of Georgia Avenue, where they found a 20-year-old female, a 26-year-old male, and a 43-year-old female suffering from gunshot wounds. None of the victims are believed to be current students at Georgia Southern University.
Officers quickly secured the area and provided aid to the victims, who were then transported to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah in stable condition.
Detectives processed the scene, searching several vehicles and an apartment, recovering four firearms. Ballistic comparisons between the firearms and shell casings will be conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Crime Lab.
The preliminary investigation suggests the shooting was the result of an ongoing dispute between roommates, which escalated when the roommates involved gathered support from family and friends, leading to a physical altercation and eventually the shooting.
Criminal charges are expected against certain individuals involved in the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact Senior Detective Eric Short at 912-764-9911 or submit an anonymous tip through the Statesboro Police Department website.
