Loganville Man Convicted for Fatal Shooting of Father in Front of His Son
Kevon Lloyd Simpson

DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston announced the conviction of 31-year-old Kevon Lloyd Simpson, of Loganville, on February 27, 2025, following a jury trial. Simpson was found guilty of Malice Murder, Felony Murder, two counts of Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony in connection with the June 13, 2021, shooting death of 55-year-old Gabriel Yalledy.

The incident occurred at a gas station in the 6700 block of Browns Mill Road, where officers found Yalledy deceased in the parking lot. According to witnesses and cell phone video, Simpson arrived at the gas station in a black BMW between 4:45 and 5 p.m. and immediately began punching Yalledy, asking where his son, Gabriel Yalledy Jr., was. Witnesses reported that Simpson appeared to have intentionally sought a confrontation with Yalledy.

During the altercation, Yalledy Jr. witnessed the fight while driving by and rushed to separate Simpson from his father. As Yalledy Jr. punched Simpson, Simpson pulled out a gun, and a struggle for the firearm ensued. The gun fell to the ground, and both father and son attempted to prevent Simpson from retrieving it. Another individual who accompanied Simpson intervened, allowing Simpson to retrieve the gun.

As Yalledy Sr. and Jr. walked away from the confrontation, Simpson fired three shots, the first two aimed at the ground, and the third shot struck Yalledy Sr. Simpson then called 911, claiming self-defense, but video footage contradicted his statement, clearly showing the victims walking away when Simpson fired the fatal shot.

Following the conviction, DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Courtney Johnson sentenced Simpson to life in prison, plus an additional 10 years in confinement and 5 years on probation.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Helen Pott, with assistance from Senior Assistant District Attorney Sean Patrick Johnston and District Attorney Investigator Curtis Averhart. Detective Crowe of the DeKalb County Police Department led the initial investigation.
