Officer Injured, Suspect Critically Wounded in Jonesboro SWAT Incident

A SWAT operation in Jonesboro on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, resulted in an officer being shot and a suspect critically wounded after an exchange of gunfire.
Officers initially responded to a report of a person shot in the 300 block of Arrowhead Boulevard. Based on information gathered at the scene, they tracked the suspect to a residence in the 700 block of Summerchase Drive.
The suspect refused to exit the residence, leading to a SWAT team activation. Negotiators attempted to communicate with the suspect, but were unsuccessful.
When SWAT officers entered the residence, an exchange of gunfire occurred. An officer positioned on the perimeter was shot in the lower extremity, and the suspect was struck multiple times.
Both the officer and the suspect were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The officer is in stable condition and expected to recover. The suspect is in critical condition.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) will conduct an independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting. Charges related to both the initial shooting and the incident with the SWAT team will be filed against the suspect.
The incident remains under investigation.
