Suspected Homicide Person of Interest Arrested After Pursuit in Stephens County

A person of interest in a suspected homicide case out of Rockdale County was taken into custody Wednesday after a pursuit through Stephens County.

On the morning of February 19, the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office was alerted that the individual might be traveling through the area en route to the Carolinas. Deputies were given a description of both the suspect and their vehicle.

At approximately 11:50 a.m., deputies spotted a matching vehicle on Highway 365/Highway 17 Alternate and attempted a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop, leading to a pursuit. Georgia State Patrol took over the chase at the intersection of Highway 106 and Highway 145. The pursuit ended when the suspect’s vehicle stopped on Collier Road near Swift Street.

The suspect surrendered without incident and was transported to the Stephens County Jail. By 6 p.m., Rockdale County authorities had taken the individual into their custody.

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Georgia State Patrol Post 7 and the Toccoa Police Department for their assistance.
