Macon-Bibb Firefighter Named Georgia Rookie of the Year

Macon-Bibb firefighter Jordan Jackson has been named the 2024 Rookie of the Year by the Georgia State Firefighters Association.

“I was shocked and couldn’t believe it,” said Jackson.

A Macon native and member of the Winter Class of 2021, Jackson currently serves at Station 10. He quickly earned recognition for his dedication, leading to his nomination for the award by his peers.

“This is the best job in the world,” Jackson said. “I get to help people when they need it most. It’s kind of a surreal thing that this is what I do for work.”

Fire Chief Shane Edwards praised Jackson’s commitment. “Jordan’s dedication, hard work, and passion for serving our community truly set him apart. We are very fortunate to have him serve the community. I look forward to seeing him continue to grow within our department.”

Jackson, a graduate of First Presbyterian Day School, was honored at the State Capitol in front of his command staff, as well as his mother, grandmother, and godmother.

“I was pretty nervous, but excited and happy to get to be part of that and have my name attached to the award,” Jackson said.
