Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Gwinnett County Police Vehicle

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a fatal collision involving a Gwinnett County police vehicle that resulted in the death of a male pedestrian.
Shortly before 1:00 a.m. on Monday, February 10th, an officer assigned to the West Precinct reported to dispatch that he had been involved in a collision with a pedestrian on Beaver Ruin Road near Interstate 85. According to preliminary findings, the officer was driving east when the pedestrian suddenly crossed the roadway outside of a crosswalk.
Officers at the scene rendered aid before Gwinnett County Fire Services transported the man to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Georgia State Patrol and the Gwinnett County Police Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene. The on-site investigation has been completed, and the roadway has since reopened. However, authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
