Snellville Man Arrested After Opening Fire on Gwinnett Deputies During Warrant Operation

On February 6, 2025, Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office deputies were executing a warrant at a residence in Snellville when an individual, later identified as 24-year-old Denzel James Thompson, opened fire on the officers. Fortunately, no law enforcement personnel were injured in the incident.

The Gwinnett Police Uniform Division, Gwinnett Police SWAT Team, and other local agencies quickly responded to assist with the situation. Thompson was apprehended and taken into custody without further incident.

Thompson faces multiple charges, including four counts of Aggravated Assault Against a Law Enforcement Officer, four counts of Possession of a Firearm or Knife During the Commission of or Attempt to Commit Certain Crimes, and Unauthorized Discharge of a Firearm within 50 Yards of a Public Highway.

He is currently being held at the Gwinnett County Jail. This remains an active investigation, and the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office will provide updates as they become available.
