On February 4, 2025, Spalding County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) deputies arrested 35-year-old Kevin Tylor Smith, a suspect wanted for an armed robbery in Monroe County. The arrest followed a pursuit that began after deputies were alerted by the Butts County Sheriff’s Office that Smith might be in the area.
SCSO deputies located Smith’s vehicle at a residence on Dutchman Road, but when they approached, Smith drove away, heading toward Griffin. Deputies attempted a traffic stop on Jackson Road and McIntosh Road, but Smith fled, discarding a handgun out of the passenger side window. He eventually stopped, was taken into custody without further incident, and a female passenger was released after questioning.
Inside Smith’s vehicle, investigators found a ski mask, gloves, and pieces of an ATM machine. The handgun Smith discarded was recovered, and the vehicle was seized for further investigation. Smith faces charges of Violation of Probation, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Tampering with Evidence. He is being held without bond in the Spalding County Jail and will be transferred to Monroe County.
Sheriff Darrell Dix commended the teamwork of SCSO, Butts County Sheriff’s Office, and Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies for their coordinated efforts in apprehending the suspect.
