Former FVSU Basketball Coach Found Shot to Death in Atlanta; Police Investigate Rideshare Connection
A man found dead from gunshot wounds in Atlanta has been identified as Samuel Jackson, a former head coach of the Fort Valley State University (FVSU) men’s basketball team.
On January 29, 2025, Atlanta homicide detectives were notified by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office about a possible deceased person near 2994 Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway NW. Officers searched the area and located Jackson’s body.
Jackson, who retired from coaching in 2018, was working part-time as an Uber and Uber Eats driver. His family reported him missing in Houston County on January 27 after receiving a strange text message from his phone asking, “Do you know my social security number?” That night, he had been working as an Uber Eats driver. His family contacted Uber, which provided the last known location of his vehicle, leading them to alert authorities.
On January 31, Atlanta police identified 30-year-old Iquane Shaquill Brown as a person of interest. Brown had ordered a rideshare in Houston County and is currently in custody at the Houston County Jail on an unrelated robbery charge out of Warner Robins.
Homicide detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Jackson’s death.
