Body Discovered Near South Chickamauga Creek in Ringgold, GBI Investigating

UPDATE: The woman found in Ringgold on Saturday has been identified as Jamie Lauren Wiley, age 37, of Ringgold, GA.

The GBI arrested and charged Joseph Shannon Mays, age 34, of Locust Grove, GA, with one count of Malice Murder in connection to Wiley’s death.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is currently investigating the discovery of a woman’s body in Ringgold, GA, at the request of the Ringgold Police Department.

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 10:00 AM on January 18, 2025, a passerby found the body down an embankment near South Chickamauga Creek off Emberson Drive. The identity of the victim has not been confirmed, and authorities are working to identify her.

The City of Ringgold expressed its sadness regarding the incident and assured the community that all necessary resources are being used to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death. The Ringgold Police Department is working in conjunction with the GBI as part of the ongoing investigation.

At this time, no arrests have been made. The investigation is active and ongoing.
