McDonough Man Arrested with Stolen Firearms, THC Edibles in Franklin County

On January 16, 2025, a Franklin County Deputy initiated an early morning traffic stop in the Sandy Cross area. During the stop, the driver, 52-year-old Christopher Shane Browning from McDonough, Georgia, was found to be in possession of two stolen firearms, as well as multiple packages of THC vapes and edibles.

Further investigation revealed that Browning was a convicted felon and a registered sex offender. As a result, Browning was placed under arrest without incident and transported to the Franklin County Detention Center. He faces multiple charges, including:

  • Theft by receiving stolen property (x2)
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime (x2)
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (x2)
  • Possession of a Schedule I controlled substance with intent to distribute
  • Possession of a Schedule I controlled substance
  • Failure to maintain insurance

The Georgia State Patrol K9 Unit assisted with the investigation. Authorities are encouraging citizens to report any suspicious activities or relevant information to local law enforcement by calling 911 or the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 384-2525.
