Man Sentenced to 105 Years for Crowd Shooting in Cairo, Georgia
Jakavian Jamel Cotton

Jakavian Jamel Cotton has been sentenced to 105 years in prison after being convicted for a shooting into a crowd that resulted in the death of Jaylin Evans. Cotton was found guilty of Voluntary Manslaughter, five counts of Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Judge Claire Chason handed down the sentence, citing Cotton’s violent criminal history, which includes a prior conviction for a home invasion where an elderly victim was shot and robbed.

District Attorney Joe Mulholland of the South Georgia Circuit stated, “The Defendant shot into a crowd with no discretion as to who he was going to kill. There was a little girl and innocent bystanders who could have been murdered. The family of Jaylin and the State of Georgia are pleased the judge sentenced the Defendant according to his history and malicious acts. He should spend the remainder of his life in prison, as he gave Jaylin Evans a life sentence with his crime.”
