Carrollton Police Arrest Two Men in Multi-State Theft and Fraud Crime Spree
The Carrollton Police Department has arrested two men from Washington state in connection with a multi-state crime spree, including thefts across multiple locations. The investigation began on August 1, 2024, when Carrollton Police were alerted to a white BMW linked to a theft at One Life Fitness in Newnan, GA. Officers quickly located the vehicle in a nearby parking lot, but when the suspects fled at high speeds, a brief pursuit ensued. Due to safety concerns, the chase was terminated, and further investigation revealed additional thefts at Club Fitness on Maple Street prior to the Newnan incident.
The suspects, later identified as Abdoulah Barry, 21, and Natnael Berhanu, 20, both from Washington state, were involved in a series of crimes across the country, using rented vehicles. Law enforcement agencies across the U.S. coordinated efforts to track the suspects down. On January 7, 2025, Barry and Berhanu were arrested in Washington state while attempting to flee the country.
Both men are facing 31 felony charges, including Financial Transaction Card Theft, Fraud, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude, and violations under the Georgia RICO Act. They are currently being held at the Carroll County Jail.
The Carrollton Police Department thanked the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation and apprehension of the suspects.
