Five Charged in Connection with Sparta Shooting Death of 18-Year-Old, One At-Large

Authorities have charged five individuals in connection with the death of 18-year-old Javen Lamont Turner of Sparta, Georgia, following a January 3, 2025, shooting at the intersection of Broad Street and Miles Street.

Darrian Deandre Greene, 18, of Thompson, GA; Nehemiah Henderson, 22, of Sparta, GA; Mikez Yaraus Edwards, 18, of Sparta, GA; and a 16-year-old from Sparta, GA, have been arrested and charged with Felony Murder. Another suspect, Armarion Hunt, 20, of Sparta, GA, is also charged with Felony Murder and remains wanted by authorities.

The Hancock County 911 center received reports of individuals in one vehicle shooting at another vehicle on January 3. Turner, a passenger, was struck multiple times. He succumbed to his injuries on January 4.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) began investigating the case at the request of the Sparta Police Department.

The 16-year-old suspect is being held at a Youth Detention Center, while Greene, Henderson, and Edwards are in custody at the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office. Law enforcement continues to search for Hunt.
