On Sunday, January 5, 2025, at approximately 5:00 p.m., a Franklin County Deputy initiated a traffic stop on Hwy 145/Royston Road near Carnesville for a speeding vehicle.
The driver, identified as 19-year-old Alexander Stephenson of Augusta, GA, refused to pull over, leading deputies on a chase. While approaching Athens Street, Stephenson failed to stop at a stop sign and lost control of the vehicle, crashing into a block wall.
Emergency responders, including Franklin County EMS and the Carnesville Fire Department, evaluated all occupants of the vehicle. No injuries were reported.
Stephenson faces multiple charges, including:
- Fleeing and Eluding
- Speeding
- Seatbelt Violation
- Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign
- Reckless Driving
The Georgia State Patrol, Franklin County EMS, and Carnesville Fire Department assisted in responding to the incident.
