Woman Charged with Murder After Stabbing Incident in Columbus
On December 3, 2024, around 4:40 p.m., Columbus Police Officers responded to a stabbing incident in the 3900 block of Trask Drive. Upon arrival, officers found 33-year-old Nigel Holmes suffering from a stab wound. EMS transported Holmes to Piedmont Columbus Regional for treatment.
Initial investigations revealed that Holmes had been involved in a dispute with 32-year-old Shamone Huggins, which escalated into a violent altercation, resulting in Holmes being stabbed. Huggins was arrested on the same day and charged with Aggravated Assault.
However, on December 14, 2024, the Columbus Police Department was informed that Holmes had succumbed to his injuries while hospitalized. The case was reassigned to the Violent Crimes Unit for further investigation.
Following additional interviews and collaboration with the Medical Examiner’s Office, the charge against Huggins was upgraded to Murder. An additional charge of Possession of a Knife During the Commission of a Crime was also added. Huggins remains in custody at the Muscogee County Jail and was served with the upgraded charges. She is scheduled for a hearing in Recorder’s Court on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 1:30 p.m.
