Suspect Arrested by Columbus Police for Murder After Fatal Shooting of Teen
On Thursday, December 19, 2024, Jeremiah West was arrested and charged with Murder and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime in connection with the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Elijah Hatcher. West is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Recorder’s Court on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 1:30 p.m.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at approximately 8:20 a.m., when Columbus Police Officers responded to a shooting in the 1100 block of Celia Drive. Upon arrival, officers found Hatcher suffering from a gunshot wound. EMS transported him to Piedmont Columbus Regional, where he was pronounced deceased by an ER doctor at 9:15 a.m.
The Violent Crimes Unit is leading the investigation, which remains ongoing.
