Intoxicated Driver Arrested After High-Speed Chase in Downtown Macon

A Bibb County Sheriff’s Office H.E.A.T. Unit deputy arrested an intoxicated motorist attempting to access Interstate 75 after a high-speed pursuit in downtown Macon.

The deputy initially observed the driver of a silver SUV run a stoplight, prompting a traffic stop. Instead of complying, the driver accelerated, leading officers on a pursuit that ended when he was forcibly stopped while attempting to enter the interstate onramp.

The male driver was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, felony fleeing or attempting to elude, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and multiple other offenses.

A female passenger in the vehicle was transported to a local hospital for observation. The driver was taken to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Center.
