Meth, Fentanyl, and Firearms Seized in Forsyth County Thrift Store Raid

On Wednesday evening, December 11, 2024, a significant law enforcement presence surrounded Possum Gizzards Thrift Store in Forsyth County as the Lanier Regional Drug Task Force (LRDTF) and Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office executed a search warrant.

Investigators had been building a case since July, after receiving information that Carl Wilford was selling methamphetamine inside the closed business and that Brianna McCarthy, wanted for escape from Gwinnett County Comprehensive Correctional Complex since June 2022, was hiding there.

The Forsyth County SWAT team executed the warrant, uncovering 29.7 grams of methamphetamine, 1.8 grams of fentanyl, drug-related objects, and 13 firearms.

Three individuals were arrested during the operation:

  • Carl Wilford: Charged with Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Fentanyl with Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Firearm in Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act, Possession of Drug-Related Objects, and Hindering Apprehension of an Escapee.
  • Brianna McCarthy: Charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug-Related Objects, and Identity Fraud.
  • Joshua Massie: Charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug-Related Objects, and Hindering Apprehension of an Escapee.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office praised the collaborative effort between the LRDTF and the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office in successfully dismantling the operation.
