Wanted Killer of Three in Wilkes County Captured

On Friday, December 6, 2024, at around 8:00 a.m., the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Shannon Box in connection with a triple murder that occurred the previous day in Tignall, GA. Box, who had been the subject of an intense manhunt, was located at a church on Jones Chapel Road and taken into custody without incident.

Box, 56, is charged with three counts of murder, three counts of possession of a knife during the commission of a crime, and aggravated assault. He is currently held at the Wilkes County Jail.

The victims of the killings have been identified as Chauncey Box, 55, Brenda Lipscomb, 67, and Michael Schmidt, 55, all from Tignall. A fourth victim, who was injured and taken to a local hospital, has not been identified.

The incident began on Thursday, December 5, 2024, when deputies responded to a call about an injured woman on Mallorysville Road. Deputies later discovered the bodies of three victims inside a nearby home. Preliminary information revealed that Box attacked the woman before the murders occurred, and authorities launched a search for Box and his Grey 2002 GMC Sierra Pickup Truck with a Georgia Handicap Tag.
