Toccoa Man Arrested for Drug Possession After Traffic Stop in Stephens County

A Toccoa man was arrested on November 27, 2024, after a traffic stop revealed illegal drugs and paraphernalia in his vehicle. The incident occurred when a deputy with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office S.T.I.N.G. Unit pulled over a red RAM 1500 truck for displaying no rear license plate on East Currahee Street.

During the stop near Rumsey Avenue, the deputy observed a THC vape pen hidden near the driver’s seat while verifying the vehicle’s VIN number. The deputy asked the driver, Charles Reed, 42, of Toccoa, and his passenger to step out of the vehicle for a search. While searching Reed, the deputy found a pipe commonly used for methamphetamine.

Further investigation of the vehicle led to the discovery of a black box containing suspected methamphetamine. Reed was arrested and transported to the Stephens County Jail without incident.

Reed has been charged with two counts of Possession of Schedule I Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug-Related Objects, and a tire violation. He was released from jail on November 30, 2024, after posting a $22,000 bond.
