Man Shot Near Statesboro Store, Suspect Arrested Hours Later

On December 2, 2024, shortly before 4:00 p.m., Statesboro Police Department officers responded to the Octane Food Mart in the 1400 block of Northside Drive East after a man entered the store suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and transported the victim to East Georgia Regional Medical Center before he was later transferred to Memorial Health in Savannah for further treatment.

The victim, an adult male, was able to provide detectives with information prior to his transport. Investigators determined that the shooting did not occur inside the store or involve its staff but took place in a wooded area nearby.

Review of surveillance footage from the store helped detectives identify a person and vehicle of interest. Using the Flock system, officers located the vehicle approximately two hours later and detained its three occupants.

Further interviews and a search of the vehicle led to the arrest of James Deon Scott Jr., 38, of Success Court, Statesboro. Scott has been charged with Aggravated Assault and was transported to the Bulloch County Jail, where he remains in custody pending judicial proceedings.
