Third and Poplar Streets Intersection Closed for Downtown Macon Christmas Light Extravaganza
A portion of the intersection at Third and Poplar Streets in Downtown Macon will remain closed through January 5, 2025, to accommodate the Downtown Macon Christmas Light Extravaganza. Traffic on Poplar Street will not be able to turn onto Third Street, creating a safer crossing for visitors enjoying the event.
“We wanted to give the team doing the installation a safe environment in which to finish setting up and to create a safer path for all the people and families visiting Downtown during this time,” said Macon-Bibb County Traffic Engineer Nigel Floyd.
The Extravaganza begins on Friday, November 29, at 6:00 p.m. with a performance by the Macon Pops. The event features over 1,000,000 synchronized lights set to music arranged and performed by the Macon Pops in historic downtown Macon.
Nightly shows will begin every hour starting at 6:00 p.m., with lights remaining on (without music or motion) from 10:00 to 11:00 p.m. each evening. The event is free and open to the public.
The lights will be displayed along Poplar Street between First Street and MLK Jr. Boulevard and Third Street between Plum Street and Cherry Street.
