Suspect Shot in the Hand During Officer-Involved Shooting in Norcross
The Gwinnett County Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left an adult male suspect with a gunshot wound to the hand.
Around 8:54 p.m. on November 21, officers conducting a crime suppression detail in the area of Dawson Boulevard and McDonough Drive in Norcross observed a man walking through a parking lot. When officers attempted to speak with him, the man fled across McDonough Drive toward Dawson Boulevard.
An officer pursued the man on foot, ordering him to stop. During the chase, the suspect fell to the ground, dropping a handgun. He then got up and attempted to retrieve the weapon despite multiple commands from the officer to stop. As the suspect picked up the gun, the officer fired several shots, hitting the man at least once in the hand.
Despite being injured, the suspect continued to flee but surrendered after a short distance. He was taken into custody, and officers provided first aid before transporting him to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The Gwinnett County Police Department’s Deadly Force Investigation Team, along with crime scene investigators, responded to the scene. Charges against the suspect are pending, and his identity has not been released.
