20-Year-Old Arrested in Connection to Fatal Shooting in South Atlanta

On November 16, 2024, Mason Bates, 20, was arrested for his involvement in a homicide at 1660 Jonesboro Road SE in South Atlanta. Bates faces charges of Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony. He is currently receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained in the incident and will be transferred to the Fulton County Jail following his release from the hospital.

Earlier that morning, at approximately 12:46 a.m., Atlanta Police officers responded to a report of a shooting at 1660 Jonesboro Road SE. Upon arrival, police found two victims: a 38-year-old male and a 45-year-old male, both suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were transported to a hospital, where the 45-year-old man later died despite life-saving efforts.

Shortly after, officers responded to another shooting call at 1857 Lakewood Terrace SE and discovered a 20-year-old male, later identified as Bates, with gunshot wounds to his abdomen and leg. Preliminary investigations suggest that all three individuals were involved in the same incident.

The investigation remains ongoing.
