Fatal Collision in Toombs County Claims Life of Texas Man at Highway 15 Intersection

On Saturday, November 2, 2024, a fatal collision involving a semi-truck and a white Nissan Altima occurred at the intersection of Hwy 15 and Lyons Center Road in Toombs County. Toombs County deputies arrived at approximately 1:58 p.m. and found a semi-truck, driven by Justin Rodgers, 36, of Arkansas, in a ditch along the northbound lane. A white Nissan Altima, driven by 66-year-old Arthur Lee Sims of Texas, was found crushed under the front of the truck. Sims was pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries.

Preliminary evidence indicates that Rodgers was southbound on Hwy 15 while Sims, who was traveling east on Lyons Center Road, approached a stop sign but failed to come to a complete stop, entering the intersection at a low speed. Rodgers attempted to avoid the collision by braking and veering into the opposing lane, but the semi-truck struck the Altima in the center of the intersection.

The Georgia State Patrol Post 18 in Reidsville is handling further investigation into the accident. Toombs County Captain Jordan Kight expressed gratitude for the assistance of all responding agencies and asked the community to keep the families affected by the incident in their thoughts and prayers.
