Weapons seized

On Friday, November 1, 2024, Sumter County Deputies responded to multiple reports of vehicle break-ins along Lakeshore Ave, Hwy 19 North, and Parkers Mill Creek Rd. During these incidents, a dirt bike was also reported stolen. Later, deputies spotted two dirt bikes leaving a gas station within Americus city limits, one of which matched the description of the stolen bike. When deputies attempted to make contact, the riders fled the scene.

A search was conducted in coordination with the Americus Police Department, which included gathering video evidence from the gas station. Information from a witness led deputies to a residence on 1st Montgomery Street, where they identified the driver of the stolen bike. Upon securing a search warrant, deputies discovered several dirt bikes and numerous firearms at the residence, some of which were confirmed as stolen. Some recovered property has since been returned to its rightful owner.

One individual has been arrested on charges of Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, though their identity has not been disclosed as the investigation continues. Additional charges and arrests are expected.
