Cleveland Woman Arrested for DUI and Drug Possession After Crash in Stephens County
On the evening of October 10, 2024, deputies from the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle accident on Prather Bridge Road, resulting in the arrest of 49-year-old Stephanie Cohron of Cleveland, Georgia.
At approximately 9:13 p.m., deputies arrived at the scene to find Cohron unharmed after her Nissan Rogue had run off the roadway and crashed into a ditch. Cohron explained that she swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle, leading to the accident.
During their conversation, a deputy from the SCSO’s S.T.I.N.G. Unit noted signs that Cohron may have been under the influence of drugs. Despite claiming to be five years sober, she admitted that her boyfriend, currently jailed on drug charges, had been in her vehicle recently. Further investigation revealed that Cohron was on felony probation for opioid possession, allowing deputies to search her vehicle under a fourth amendment waiver.
The search uncovered a small plastic baggie with suspected methamphetamine, another baggie containing suspected fentanyl, and several used drug-related items, including pipes and lighters. A deputy assigned to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) responded to take possession of the narcotics.
Field sobriety tests confirmed Cohron was under the influence of drugs. During the arrest, she voluntarily surrendered a plastic bag containing suspected crack cocaine. After being read the Georgia Implied Consent Notice, Cohron refused to comply.
Cohron was transported to the Stephens County Jail, where she was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, two counts of Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Failure to Maintain Lane. Additionally, her driver’s license was suspended. She was booked into the jail without incident.
