$54 Million Western Parallel Connector Highway Construction Underway in Henry County

Construction has officially begun on the $54 million Western Parallel Connector, a new four-lane highway designed to ease traffic between Hudson Bridge Road, Jodeco Road, and Jonesboro Road in Henry County. The project, which broke ground in September following the bid process closure in May and contract award in July, aims to create a vital connection between key commercial areas.

The new highway will start at the intersection of Hudson Bridge Road near Walmart and McDonald’s, running south past the new Costco development on Jodeco Road and continuing to Jonesboro Road near Target and Home Depot. Ground clearing is already underway, and construction is progressing steadily.

Notably, the section from Jodeco Road to Mt. Olive Road has already been completed by Costco’s developers, featuring a 10-foot multi-use path on the east side, a 5-foot sidewalk on the west side, streetlights, and an 18-foot median.

Once finished, the Western Parallel Connector will offer a streamlined route for residents, allowing travel from Hudson Bridge Road to shopping centers like Costco, Sprouts Farmers Market, Target, and Home Depot without accessing I-75. The project is expected to significantly reduce congestion on Flippen Road, Hudson Bridge Road, and Eagles Landing Parkway.

The highway is set to be completed within the next 24 months, with plans to widen Rock Quarry Road by the end of the year, bringing over $100 million in traffic improvements to the area. Additionally, two extra lanes will be added to the I-75 toll lanes, eliminating the need for reversible lanes and further improving traffic flow.
