Shots Fired at Trooper During High-Speed Chase in Bibb County, Suspect Vehicle Abandoned

Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team (S.R.T.) deputies assisted the Georgia State Patrol after a high-speed pursuit involving a KIA SUV on the weekend of October 12, 2024. A Georgia State Patrol trooper initiated a traffic stop on the KIA for speeding, but instead of complying, the driver accelerated, leading to a chase.

During the pursuit, the trooper attempted a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to stop the vehicle. At this point, shots were fired from the SUV, targeting the trooper. Fortunately, the trooper was unharmed but temporarily lost sight of the fleeing vehicle.

The pursuit ended when the KIA was found abandoned in an alley on Clarks Lane, located in the Fort Hill neighborhood. The suspect(s) had fled the scene on foot, and the vehicle was left behind.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating the incident and is actively seeking information. Anyone with details is encouraged to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500.
