Atlanta Police Officer Discharges Weapon During Encounter with Armed Suspect

On October 7, 2024, at approximately 5:01 PM, an Atlanta Police officer working an off-duty job at 20 Broad Street SW in Downtown Atlanta confronted a male suspect armed with a firearm. During the encounter, the officer discharged his duty weapon, prompting a foot pursuit.

The suspect was located several blocks away and taken into custody without further incident. There were no injuries resulting from the shooting; however, the suspect sustained a minor abrasion and received treatment from medical personnel on the scene. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
