Covington Man Arrested With 90 Grams of Methamphetamine in Newton County Drug Bust

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) arrested Walter Johnson, 50, of Covington, GA, on multiple drug-related charges during a traffic stop on September 27, 2024.

NCSO’s Special Investigations Division (SID) discovered 90 grams of methamphetamine in Johnson’s possession during the stop. Further investigation revealed he was also carrying Schedule I narcotics, leading to additional charges.

Following the traffic stop, NCSO obtained a search warrant for a residence on Highway 162 South. The SID, with assistance from the Uniform Patrol Division, executed the warrant, uncovering scales, baggies, and trafficking quantities of methamphetamine and cocaine.

Sheriff Ezell Brown commented on the arrest, stating, “This arrest is a result of our relentless efforts to remove dangerous drugs off the streets and hold those who distribute them accountable. The safety and security of our Newton County community remains top priority.”

Johnson faces charges including trafficking methamphetamine and cocaine, along with three counts of possession of Schedule I narcotics. He is currently being held at the Newton County Detention Center.
