Man Armed With Knife Shot by Lumpkin County Deputies After Domestic Dispute

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Dahlonega, Georgia, at the request of the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred on Saturday, September 28, 2024, around 12:30 PM in the Cavender Creek area.

Deputies responded to a domestic dispute at a residence, where they received information that a woman had been injured. Upon arrival, deputies encountered 27-year-old Malachi Mayfield, armed with a knife. When Mayfield made aggressive movements toward the deputies, they shot him.

Mayfield was treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition. No deputies were injured during the incident.

The GBI is conducting an independent investigation, and once complete, the case file will be forwarded to the Enotah Judicial Circuit District Attorney for review.
