Head-On Collision on Highway 27 Leaves One Dead and Unborn Child Lost

On Thursday, September 26, 2024, at approximately 3:30 PM, a head-on collision involving two vehicles occurred on Highway 27 near Sloppy Floyd Lake Road, prompting a response from Georgia State Patrol Post 38 in Rome.

Investigators determined that a 2005 Pontiac G6, traveling south, crossed the center line and collided with a northbound 2011 BMW 528. A female passenger in the Pontiac was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital in Rome. The female driver of the BMW sustained serious injuries and was also taken to the hospital, where emergency surgery was performed, but her unborn child was pronounced dead following the procedure.

The name of the deceased passenger in the Pontiac will be released after the family has been notified. The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team A (SCRT-A) is conducting the investigation into the incident.
