Juvenile Taken Into Custody After Snapchat Threat at Tifton’s Eighth St. Middle School

On September 23, 2024, the FBI notified the Tift County 911 Center Dispatch about a social media threat made via Snapchat targeting Eighth St. Middle School in Tifton. Tifton Police Department officers were dispatched to the school following the alert.

Upon arrival, officers met with school staff, briefed them on the potential threat, and proceeded to the identified classroom, where they took a juvenile into custody. The juvenile was then transported to the Tifton Police Department for further investigation.

Local authorities, including the Tifton Police and school system security, continue to monitor the situation. Tifton Police Chief Steve Hyman urged parents to discuss the seriousness of making threats with their children, warning of the consequences such actions can bring.
